The most precious gift you can give to yourself is to show up on the mat to practice Yoga. Movement is essential because we store emotions in our body and need to move that energy out. The beauty of Yoga is that each asana (posture) connects with the breath. The most effective way to quiet the mind is breathing consciously.

Yoga balances the glandular system, strengthens the nervous system, expands the lung capacity, and purifies the bloodstream. It brings balance to the body, mind and soul. As you continue your practice it will build inner strength and self-awareness to help you connect to your true authentic self.

Yoga is all about living with awareness in each moment. Connecting to your Divine breath. ️ Yoga is not about the designer clothes. Yoga is not about the way you look in the pose. There is no competition in Yoga. Yoga is a lifestyle. As you continue your practice you will notice profounds shifts in your mindset and relationships with others. Are you engaging in your activities with awareness?

Each day our practice may change, at times we may stumble on the mat and that is the beauty of the journey. To accept, nourish and listen to our sacred body. Just be in this present moment. Yoga is not just about the postures; There are “8 limbs of yoga”:

yama (moral and ethical) – how we relate to others

niyama (observances) – how we relate to ourselves

āsana (posture) – how we relate to our body

prāṇāyāma (breath) – how we relate to our breath or spirit

pratyāhāra (sensory withdrawal) – how we relate to our sense organs

dhāraṇā (concentration) – how we relate to our mind

dhyāna (meditation) – moving beyond the mind

samādhi (meditative absorption) – deep realization and inner union of Divinity

I was teaching yoga and meditation in Africa. I love when children #meditate because they all started to giggle and laugh. So much we can learn from children about living in the now. Life is a meditation when you’re living with awareness, gratitude and joy. We are so blessed to be alive and take time each day to move your body.
